Lagana Lekhan


This is a Jain wedding ritual, also known as muharat, which involves a meeting of close ones along with priest at bride-to-be’s residence and hosts a pooja. The priest then decides the date and time for the wedding. 


Sagai


Sagai in Jain wedding functions is same as engagement ceremony, where pooja is conducted at groom’s place, and the brother of bride applies tikka on groom’s forehead and offers him numerous gifts like cloths, deserts, money etc.

Lagana Patrika Vachan


After the Lagana lekhan, which was conducted at bride’s place, the details regarding date and time of the wedding is sent at groom’s house, and later groom performs Vinayakyantra puja, after which priest share the information of the auspicious lagan Patrika for everyone. This Jain wedding ritual generally takes place during the engagement ceremony, that is sagai.


Mada Mandap


This is another of the Jain pre-wedding rituals where a small ceremony is held at the bride’s as well as the groom’s house. This ceremony majorly involves a few sacred poojas that priest conducts.

Baraati and Aarti


On the wedding day, the groom comes to the wedding venue, accompanied by a group of people who are singing, dancing, enjoying themselves and celebrating along the way. After reaching the site, the ritual involves the brother of bride applying a tikka to groom and groom, in turn using tikka to his brother in law. After this, again groom is showered with gifts from his brother in law. All the married ladies perform aarti and sing mangel geet.

Kanyadaan


This is a dark ritual where the bride leaves her family to join the groom’s family. The father of the bride performs this ritual which involves placing of 1 rupee and 25 paise along with rice in his daughter’s right hand and then gives her hand to the groom. The priest now chants Vedic mantras while pouring holy water on the couple’s side thrice.


Granthi Bandhan


Another Jain wedding ritual where a married woman ties pallu of bride’s saree to the shawl of the groom.

Mangal Pheras 


This is the most vital and essential ritual in Jain wedding. In this ritual, couples take seven rounds around the sacred fire, while the married ladies sing mangal geet. Later, as the bride becomes the better half of her husband, she is considered as Vamangi. The newly married couple then exchanges garlands.

Aashirvad


Jain community is very rich in ethics and values. After completion of all the wedding rituals, elders of the family come forward to give blessings to the newly married couple for their happy and prosperous married life ahead.

Sva Graha Aagamana


After marriage when the married couple arrives at the groom’s house, the bride coming here for the first time after the wedding, to start a chapter of her life, they are welcomed with warm hugs by her marital family. This Jain Practice is called as Sva Graha Aagamana.


Jine Grahe Dhan Arpana 


Jine Grahe Dhan Arpana is a post-wedding ritual where out of gratefulness, all the members of the family goes to the Jain temple and does charity by providing gifts to less fortunate.


Reception


This reception party is a grand function or event hosted by the groom’s family. It is usually held in a day or two after the wedding, specially intended to introduce the bride to the friends and extended family members of the groom.
